Dr. Henry Marsh
Henry Marsh was born in 1950 and is one of the most senior neurosurgeons in the UK and Ukraine. He has studied Political Sciences, Philosophy and Economics in the University of Oxford and Medicine in the University of London. He has been the subject of two award-winning documentaries - Your Life in Their Hands ( BBC 2004) and The English Surgeon ( 2008). The English Surgeon is the story of his work over the last twenty years in Ukraine and won the first prize at the first Kos International Film Festival in 2009 as well as many major documentary prizes all over the world, including Toronto HotDocs and the American Film Institute's SilverDocs.
Hanna Fisher is an international film and media consultant with experience in the design, and execution of film festivals and media events. She has national and international event production skills, including program design, budgeting, fund raising, sponsorship packages, marketing, and management. She has been the director of several film festivals around the globe, including Dubai, Kolkata and Canada.
Joop Van Wijk
Joop Van Wijk was born in 1950, studied Medicine in Utrecht, became MD in 1975 and worked in the field of Medicine in Africa and The Netherlands. In 1978 he took up filmmaking in the independent production company Molenwiek Film, Amsterdam. Since 1995, Joop van Wijk is the sole owner of Molenwiek Film. Ηe has (co)produced and (co)directed a large number of documentaries and feature films.
Gargi Sen was born in 1962, in India. She has studied Visual communication in India and England. She is a film director and a film distributor. She has produced more than 20 documentaries centred on issues related to the politics of visibility and culture, for which she has won several awards. She is the founder of Magic Lantern Foundation a media NGO that works with issues of human rights and media arts.
Born in Pomona, California in 1968, Rick Minnich grew up in Kansas, Arizona, and California. Following completion of his undergraduate studies in English literature at Columbia University in 1990, he travelled extensively throughout Eastern and Central Europe. In 1991, he began studying film at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), but returned to Berlin one year later as a graduate fellow of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) at the Hochschule für Film & Fernsehen “Konrad Wolf” in Potdsam-Babelsberg, where he completed his studies in directing in 2001. His documentaries, including GOOD GUYS & BAD GUYS, HEAVEN ON EARTH and HOMEMADE HILLBILLY JAM have won numerous awards and screened on television throughout the world. His most recent film FORGETTING DAD (together with Matt Sweetwood) won the Special Jury Award at IDFA 2008, the Grand Jury Prize in Guangzhou 2009, as well as the 2nd audience award at the 1st Ippokrates Health Film Festival 2009.
Antonis Frouzakis was born in Kos in 1976. He has studied law in Greece and he has also pursued legal studies orientated towards Enviromental Law in the Netherlands and Human Rights Law in France. He lives and works in Kos as a notary public. He is a member of the Administrative Board of the Cinema Club of Kos since 2002.
Hans Burgschmidt has an eclectic background in media production, film festival production and naturopathic medicine. He has been a consultant to over 15 film festivals worldwide, including Toronto, Miami, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. In Canada, in addition to hosting his own radio program for 8 years, he founded the Undercurrents Collective, a group of media workers committed to producing documentary radio and television programs focusing on social justice, ecology, and holistic healing. For over 35 years he has been practicing and more recently teaching meditation.
She was born in 1980, Bucharest Romania and has recently graduated the National University of Drama and Film Bucharest, Directing Department. Her films have been screened and awarded in a large number of film festivals around the globe. In 2007 her documentary DON’T GET ME WRONG was premiered in Locarno Filmmakers, won Golden Dove Best Documentary Award in Dok Leipzig, as well as 2nd Award in Kos Health Film Festival 2009, was selected/awarded in 50 International film festivals and screened on TV in Romania and abroad.
Dr. Harris Karouzos
He was born in 1947 in Herakleion, Crete. He graduated from the Medical School of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens and specialized in Neurology – Psychiatry. He did his post graduate studies in Community Psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital in London.
He has worked as the Senior Registrar Psychiatrist at the Dromokaiteio Hospital, at the General State Hospital and at the Psychiatric Hospital of Attiki. In 1999, he was appointed Consultant Psychiatrist at the 1st Psychiatric Division of the Psychiatric Hospital of Attiki.
